The meaning of Braderie

A Braderie is a commercial event taking place every year and is normally held exterier in the summer months. The word Braderie actually describes a collection of sellers or traders who come together to offer their wares to the public. Braderie are good places for traders to dispose or be rid of their excess stocks or end of line items permitting traders to liquidate their goods at a lower price than normal.

Braderies and Brocantes

Braderies are also connected to flea markets, brocants, vide grenniers, garage sale, boot car sale and clearance sales. A braderie could also have a seasonal or festive atmosphere such as probably the most famous Braderie held at Lille in the north of France.

Our village in the south Charente has held many a braderie whereby the locals sell off household items, tools, clothes and basicly anything they can. Sometimes merchants from bigger towns or the city come and sell off their excess stock at knockdown prices.

Braderie or Jaarmark

Braderie or Jaarmarkt meaning roasting and annual market in Holland is a type of grand yearly street fair and street market which is  found in the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and parts of Northern France,.
