Hotel Café Royal – London’s most popular menus from a lost age

The Café Royal, the predecessor to the Hotel Café Royal was one of the most famous restaurants in London at the time. It originated in 1865 by a man known as Daniel Nichols. He left France with his wife because of issues with bankruptcy. In 1897, Mr. Nichols died from diabetes and Célestine, his wife took over management of the Café until her death in 1916.

During their time open in West End London, the Café Royal had become very famous. A multitude of actors, politicians and celebrities visited the place. Some of these figureheads include; Winston Churchill, Mick Jagger, Princess Diana of Wales, Muhammed Ali, David Bowie, King Edward VIII, King George VI and Oscar Wilde. Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsey held his wedding at this place in 1996 as well.

What Remains of Café Royal Today

The Café Royal unfortunately closed down in 2008 and is now currently a 5-star hotel, known as the Hotel Café Royal.
