Zaire is a play, a tragedy in five acts by Voltaire, written in Alexandrians in 1732 and performed at the Comédie-Française on August 13, 1732.

The action takes place in Jerusalem at the time of the Crusades. Zaire, born a Christian but brought up in Islam, is loved by Sultan Orosmane. Nérestan is responsible for conveying the ransom for the release of Christian prisoners. The sultan frees a hundred knights, but refuses to free Zaire. The old King Lusignan, released in his turn, recognizes in Zaire and Nérestan his children whom he believed dead. Orosmane, deceived by an ambiguous letter, stabs Zaire whom he believes to be unfaithful. Realizing his mistake, he kills himself on the body of his lover.
